Site Plans & Development
North Wales Fire and Rescue service plans to build Hwb Awen the new Training and Development Centre at St Asaph Business Park on the site of the former Pilkington's glass factory.
This development will provide a modern, centralised base for training and operational support. Located on St Asaph Business park, 89% of stations can reach the area within 60 minutes. The site will include:
- A HQ and Wellbeing Hub – a fit-for-purpose, inclusive and modern facility designed to support wellbeing, resilience and operational readiness.
- A Training Hub - featuring specialist training facilities, modern classrooms, an enhanced Control training suite integrated with an Incident Command training suite, operational stores, and an appliance garage.
- A dedicated training environment - including a drill yard, two training towers and a range of realistic training props that replicate the incidents crews attend across North Wales, including high-rise, industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural emergencies. These facilities will help ensure firefighters are fully prepared to respond safely and effectively to complex real-world incidents.
- Biodiversity and green spaces - including a landscaped biodiversity area at the front of the building and a surface water attentation pond, supporting sustainability and enhancing the natural environment.
